Short-Form Video Marketing

short-form video on a phone

Short-form video is everywhere! If you aren’t using video short-form to market your business, you are leaving tons of business on the table. Since video is quickly becoming the traditional way to introduce yourself to your potential audience, when done right, you can form a real connection with the person on the other side of the screen.

Short-form video is a vertically shot video, think cell phone, and less than 60 seconds. So how do you engage and build trust in just 60 seconds? Here are a few tips to help you navigate the small screen.

It's important to stay friendly, open, and authentically communicate about your business throughout the video. This can make a bigger impression on the audience than many business owners realize. If you’re feeling nervous, remember that’s normal, especially if you’re not used to being on video. Even if you are, talking into a camera is still an experience very few people will have mastered. Default to positivity and assume things are going well, even if you think you’ve made a mistake or said something you weren’t happy with.

The trick to these types of videos is to provide value. Talk about a single topic or idea. Educate, solve a quick problem, provide some tips, or introduce a way of doing something. The challenge is to do it quickly, in 60 seconds or less.

Here’s the cadence for your video:

1. Introduce the topic

2. Share why this is important to know

3. Provide 2-3 ideas to support the new topic

4. Give a call to action – their next logical action

The best way to get engagement on your short-form videos is to do them frequently. Daily or alternating days are best. Keep them light and engaging. Don’t be afraid to make them fun if that fits your personality. The purpose is to stop their scrolling and watch your message. Place your logo on the screen, use captions, and add the same call to action in the details of your video.

These short-form videos don’t need to be difficult, they can all be filmed on your phone or if you have video editing software such as Adobe Pro, iMovie, or any number of low-cost video editing software. These videos do not need to be professionally produced and better if they are not. Just get out your phone, hold it away from your face with a tripod or selfie stick, and share your message. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy, and your making short-form videos for marketing.
